Royal Ascot: Day Four

More rain overnight will make the ground even more testing on day four of the Royal meeting.

So go for horses with proven form on the ground and don’t forget that Ascot is a stiff track so stamina is crucial. With so many runners and bad ground it should pay to seek each-way value

Here are today’s punting pointers.

Albany Stakes: Agent Allison was impressive on his debut but Premier Steps offers decent each-way value. He is a course winner on soft ground.

King Edward V11 Stakes: A rare small field and Astrology sets the standard. Henry Cecil’s pair Noble Mission and Thomas Chippendale will like the ground but I can’t split them.

Coronation Stakes: Irish History was unlucky last time but is unproven on the ground but Guineas winner Homecoming Queen should reign.

Wolferton Handicap: Wide open but Qaraba is in great form and will handle the soft.

Queens Vase: This will be a real slog. Yazdi and Estimate look scopey with the latter preferred.

Buckingham Palace Stakes: Another lottery and Emilio Largo may be the one to side with.

Elsewhere there is a strong word for Michael Bell’s We Are City in the 6.50pm at Goodwood. He was fancied on his Newbury debut but was slightly disappointing.

Alan King’s small but select group of flat horses are doing well and Samsons Son (7.55pm Goodwood) is each-way value.

Third Half (6.25pm Newmarket) is my strongest fancy of the day as long as the rain doesn’t get in too much.

Good luck!
