by JACK MILNER. The Betfair Chase has been a fantastic race in recent times and a stepping stone for Cheltenham Gold Cup winners past, present and future. None more so than Kauto Star won the race an incredible four times, most recently in 2011 when raising the roof off Haydock Park when beating Long Run to the cries of Simon Holt’s “Kauto Star Is still the King”.

Long Run then chased home Silviniaco Conti last year but both now have fresh challengers, old and new, as last year’s Gold Cup and Feltham winners, Bobs Worth and Dynaste look set to lock horns in the most eagerly awaited race of the year. New challengers may be queuing up but there is one old boy who seems to get better and better and despite being 12 years young, Tidal Bay can still cut the mustard with the best of them.

He has the strongest piece of form in the race beating Sir Des Champs, Flemenstar and First Lieutenant in the Lexus after chasing home Bobs Worth in the Hennessy, giving him six pounds. He made a pleasing reappearance to win nicely at Wetherby over hurdles and he should be a fair price for each-way punters to nick a few quid.
