IF I wasn’t chained to the Daily Star Sunday office tomorrow, I’d be at Haydock like a shot. There is a belting card and it is marvellous that SOLE POWER takes his chance in the Group One Betfred Sprint Cup. There are few better sights than him and Richard Hughes in full flight.
The ground should be OK for Sole Power. It was dry and sunny today, and despite a few forecast showers early tomorrow, Sole Power should not be inconvenienced. He will need luck though as there is a big field and Hughesie will need to hold his nerve to thread his way through. Gordon Lord Byron and Music Master should run huge races while both Moviesta and Es Que Love look overpriced and could be each-way value.
GUN CASE may have been let in lightly in the nursery at 4.25. He was unfancied in the market but did well to win on his Newmarket debut and the form has been upheld by the fifth Qatar Road winning since and Chevalier also running well.
HAVANA COOLER has gone up 3lb for a good second at Goodwood but should be able to win off a mark of 101 with Hughes on board in the Old Borough Cup at 3.15.
Elsewhere, AUSPICION was fancied to make a winning debut but hit the crossbar first time out. He can make amends under Ryan Moore at Ascot in the 2.25. The Hyperion Stakes is a warm contest but I loved the way MONTALCINO won at Windsor and she can follow up.
Finally at Thirsk, EXTREMITY will be racing off a career-mark high of 94 but he still looks to be improving and can take this en route to competing for a top autumn prize.
