Saturday horse racing tips

longchampSATURDAY is a tasty appetizer to Sunday’s main course at Longchamp. The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe line-up is a stellar cast of cosmopolitan equine talent and it promises to be a classic. But first things first, and Saturday’s racing is ultra-competitive and rich in variety. There are four Group Twos at Longchamp, solid cards at Ascot and Newmarket, decent jumping at Fontwell and Redcar’s moment in the sun with its biggest race of the season, the Totepool 2yo Trophy. Here are a few horse racing tips…

Zawiyah (1.50 Newmarket): Hasn’t quite lived up to expectations so far but she could spring a minor surprise in this valuable sales race.

Mighty Missile (1.40 Redcar): Really caught the eye staying on fast and late on his debut over course and distance, and in this competitive maiden he could run well at a nice price.

Lily Waugh (5.50 Fontwell): Anthony Honeyball does well in mares’ bumpers and this lady is well thought of.

Dorset Naga (3.40 Fontwell): Likes the course and the extra half mile should pose no problems.

Repeater (2.40 Ascot): Rarely wins but Graham Lee is an interesting booking. This race has cut up a bit and Repeater may enjoy the soft ground and the drop in trip.

Sea Here (3.35 Newmarket): Beautifully bred by Sea The Stars out of Oaks winner Look Here, it will be fascinating to see how she fares on her racecourse debut. I do recall Look Here making a winning debut on softish ground!

Penitent (2.08 Longchamp): In very good form at present and will love the soft ground. An each-way shout.

Maputo (3.15 Longchamp): A big step up in class but he has yet to be tested properly. Very interesting horse.
