THE racing world was today mourning the death of the remarkable Sir Henry Cecil. He was a true hero of mine and the sport will be so much the poorer for his passing. Last year, as Frankel carried all before him, I tried to explain my own fascination with Sir Henry on this blog. The link is here if you would like to read it. I have also just finished reading Brough Scott’s biography of Sir Henry. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Apart from being so well written, it captures the genius of the man and his instinctive ability of making training racehorses look so easy.
Buckskin, Le Moss, Ardoss, Wollow, RB Chesne, Kris, Oh So Sharp, Slip Anchor, Diminuendo… his list of great horses is seemingly endless. But his genius was defined by the impeccable way that he handled the career of Frankel.
RIP Sir Henry.
