THE clash between Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Coneygree and Sizing John is the undoubted highlight as the Punchestown Festival enters its second day. But I’m looking closer to home for the Lucky 15 selections.
A BIT OF GINGER (2.20 Catterick) belied her huge odds with a great run at Kempton first time out this season and as long as she can replicate the form on turf she could break her duck. 7/2
Staying at Catterick, DUNDUNAH (4.00) showed plenty of zip and promise as a juvenile. He was well backed on his York debut and his third to Brian the Snail on his last start looks solid form. The David O’Meara yard is also beginning to hit form. 13/8
Paul Hanagan opts to ride LUIS VAZ DE TORRES (4.35 Catterick) instead of stablemate Ballymore Castle and this five year old is back to the same mark (of 77) as when he last won. He was not beaten far last time and looks nicely handicapped if he can overcome his wide draw. 14/1
O’Meara also has a good chance of striking at Epsom with LATHOM (2.10 Epsom) who has dropped to a winnable mark if he can recapture some of his best form. He also has Ryan Moore on his back, which is always a huge plus.
GALAPIAT (3.15 Epsom) went into many notebooks when he won at Leicester and can defy a hefty rise in the weights in the Great Metropolitan Handicap before going on to better things. 13/8
Prices correct at the time of going to press.
