ROYAL Ascot is just 17 days away. So trainers eyeing up the two year old races have little time to unleash their juvenile artillery. But there are some interesting types running today, with the opening race at Newmarket the main focus.
DARK PROFIT is closely related to several winners including Harald Bluetooth, Zafisio and Gold Trail and that’s probably why he cost £310,000 as a yearling. Charlie Hills has reportedly been happy with his work and he is certainly one to keep an eye on. But he isn’t the only debutante to catch the eye. David Simcock is keen on £70,000 purchase STEADY MAJOR who has been doing it nicely at home, while the likely favourite is The Queen’s Paco Boy colt PEACOCK who could emerge as a genuine Royal Ascot contender if he wins this for Richard Hannon.
The second division of this 6f maiden attracts more bluebloods. The strongest vibes surround HEARTBREAK HERO, a relatively cheap purchase at £50,000 who has been pleasing William Haggas.
Elsewhere HOME CUMMINS gets a good word from Richard Fahey in the 4.00 at York in his excellent and informative Sporting Life column while ROYAL RAZALMA could outrun her odds in the maiden auction race 6.40 at Newbury.
