Glorious Goodwood: Day One

FIVE fabulous days of top-class racing kick off tomorrow at Glorious Goodwood. The racing is as competitive and classy as you’d expect and the weather looks set fair for good fast ground. It’s a tricky card but these four horses stand out today…

SALUTATION has two ways of running so he is a risky proposition. But he ran an absolute blinder at Royal Ascot, albeit over three furlongs further. He ran well at Goodwood last August and although he is coming back in trip he is effectively racing off the same mark at Ascot due to Michael Murphy’s 3lb claim. He is decent each-way value but be warned – he sometimes doesn’t go a yard. Mark Johnston’s team is in good form and we all know how much he loves a winner at this meeting.

GREGORIAN is in tip-top form and is my strongest fancy today. He ran a cracking third in the July Cup and today’s extra furlong will suit. Although he likes to get his toe in, he should just about get away with it on the ground. Toormore is the obvious one to beat but the jury is out on Richard Hannon’s three-year-old for now.

DARK PROFIT is highly regarded by Charlie Hills and after a quiet debut he showed big improvement at Haydock last time. He should step up again in what is a warm maiden but he is definitely the one to beat.

EXTREMITY is another who we probably haven’t quite seen the best of. The booking of Ryan Moore is eye-catching and Hugo Palmer thinks the world of this talented three-year-old. This is a tough ask against older horses but if anyone can get the best out of Extremity, it is Moore. He is 7/1 with BetVictor and that looks good value.
