Five to follow at Glorious Goodwood

dec warGLORIOUS Goodwood is looming like a shimmering shaft of light. Course officials may not have Frankel to boost numbers this year but they are still confident that more than 100,000 people will visit during the wonderful five days of top-class racing. Here are a few Glorious Goodwood tips to hopefully make it a Glorious betting week for punters.

REROUTE: Very impressive on his debut at York, Ed Walker’s Acclamation filly was far from disgraced when fifth to Rizeena in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She has speed to burn and the sharp 5f of Goodwood should suit her well in the Molecomb Stakes on Tuesday.

GARSWOOD: By no means a certain runner in the Lennox Stakes, but if the rain gets in and the ground eases then 11/1 looks good value for a horse that Richard Fahey still has so much faith in.

DECLARATION OF WAR: Brilliant in the Queen Anne (pictured above), he looks an out-and-out miler and could be the value bet to upset the big two, Toronado and Dawn Approach, in the Sussex Stakes.

WENTWORTH: Looks destined to win a big prize at some point this season and the big field in the Betfred Mile (Heritage Handicap) could suit the way he likes to race. His ante-post price of 8/1 is short enough so it might be worth waiting as his odds will probably drift.

HOT SNAP: The Nell Gwyn winner has not been seen since flopping in the 1,000 Guineas but her possible presence in the Nassau Stakes gives it an added dimension. This could be one of the races of the meeting with Sky Lantern trying a longer trip and The Fugue a probable starter. But Lady Cecil’s filly could be the fly in the ointment.
