Dark Horses: Headlong and Paris Rose

meehanPUNTERS will be lucky to find one winner at Royal Ascot today. The racing is ultra competitive but I’m hoping Disclaimer can add to Lady Cecil’s emotional success on Thursday with Riposte. However, I’m looking further afield to a couple of interesting types. Brian Meehan’s two year olds have been in very good form and Red Lady may well defy her biggish odds in the Albany Stakes at the royal meeting today. But HEADLONG is an interesting Meehan newcomer in the maiden at Newmarket tonight (8.40). He is said to have done a lot of work and should be ready to run a very big race first time up. Frankie Dettori makes the dash from Ascot for the ride.

PARIS ROSE has already been flagged up on this blog as a filly of strong potential. She hit the crossbar at Ripon last time and ventures north again for a 1m 2f maiden at Redcar (2.45). A couple of other strong southern raiders should ensure William Haggas’s filly will start at a decent price.
