BACK after a hiatus, which included a couple of fab days at Newmarket. The National Stud and National Horseracing Museum are must-visits if you haven’t done them already… On to today and there’s no doubt that PIAZON would have won on his seasonal reappearance at Nottingham if he had not fluffed his lines at the start. For good measure he was also hampered before coming from a long way back to get within two lengths of the winner. He seeks compensation at Yarmouth today (3.50) and as long as he handles the quicker ground he should win. He is up 1lb but the useful Louis Steward (left) takes off 5lb. He could be a well handicapped horse. Elsewhere on a busy Bank Holiday Monday, a few others stand out…
Alan King had big hopes for MEMBEROF back in the autumn but he has failed to deliver in two useful contests. He looks to have been found an easier opportunity at Chepstow (1.30) today although the useful Solar Impulse is likely to start odds-on favourite. Memberof is currently 14/1 and that could be very good each-way value.
BALZACCIO is given a chance to atone for a slightly disappointing run at Newbury where the ground softened up and scuppered his chance. Three miles around Huntingdon on decent ground looks ideal in the 3.45.
Maurice Linehan impresses with his riding and he gets on well with GET BACK IN LINE who ran a nice race at Stratford behind Vulcanite. He looks primed for victory at Market Rasen (4.05).
Finally, a tentative one, Andrew Balding has always liked the well-bred DER MEISTER and he might be good enough first time out in what looks a weak maiden at Yarmouth (4.10).
