Daily Double June 5

THE fillies take centre stage today and I’ve already looked at the Epsom Oaks in another post. It is a race high in quality and Crystal Zvezda is taken to swoop late to win. She’s been heavily supported this week. Star Of Seville also carries each-way appeal. There was almost 3mm of rain overnight at Epsom which should maintain good ground. But with no more serious rain forecast, John Gosden has warned that Jack Hobbs may be pulled out of tomorrow’s Epsom Derby if the ground turns lightning quick. A decision will be made tomorrow morning. Back to today and I was sorely tempted to put Sennockian Star in the Daily Double (Epsom 2.35). He is 7lb lower than when he won at Glorious Goodwood last summer after a dip in form but came back to something like his best last time. But I’m looking over the Jumps instead today…

DOUBLE SILVER has been well placed to win her last two races at Ludlow and is fancied to complete the hat-trick at Market Rasen (4.55). She is up 6lb but is Paddy Brennan’s only ride at the meeting and he gets a nice tune out of her.

The other selection is COUNTERSIGN in the opener at the Lincolnshire track (1.50). An easy winner last time, I’m hoping he has more to offer and could follow up.

PS Risk A Fine (3.00 Market Rasen) is also fancied to make a winning chasing debut while Monasada (3.25) can make the journey north worthwhile at Catterick. The juvenile maiden at Goodwood could be informative and Click and Roll (7.15) is among those who are highly regarded by connections.

Be lucky!
