I’M making the trek to Beverley tonight. Looking forward to it, especially as it’s one of the few courses I’ve yet to visit. Long overdue. The weather looks promising and the racing is of a reasonable quality. The first selection might seem a bit leftfield…
…as he is a three-year-old running in a seller against older horses. But I thought BARON SPIKEY (Beverley 6.15) showed something in his last race the other day at Musselburgh. He has a bad draw so it is a speculative selection but he has a good pilot in PJ McDonald and if he can get an early position he might reward each-way backers.
The other selection is DENZILLE LANE (Bev 7.15) who bids to follow up a victory in a better race last weekend. He has a 6lb penalty but there is nothing more deadly than an in-form Mark Johnston horse. The gelding is up against Relight My Fire who loves Beverley but who is also carrying a penalty.
PS Looking forward to seeing Excessable who was brilliant winning at Ripon and who I thought might run at Royal Ascot. And I’ll be keeping a close eye on Thwoar (7.45) who has slipped down the handicap to a rating of 60 and who has Shane Gray on board claiming a further 3lb off.
look forward to your tips
