THE crossbar was well and truly hit with Clonusker yesterday at Plumpton, who only gave best close home to finish second at 7-1. Ayr is the focus of today and, in particular, two horses trained by Lucinda Russell.
BOLD SIR BRIAN (3.00 Ayr) has somewhat lost his way after looking a potential star as a younger horse. However he was in the process of running a solid race at Haydock last time in a much better contest before taking a heavy fall three out. He is now down to a hurdles mark of 120 (he raced off 135 at Aintree as a novice hurdler) and is well treated on his best form.
He might be vulnerable to lightweight Lochnell but if he is anywhere near his best then he should be competitive.
Russell saddles a couple in the mares novices’ hurdle (2.55) including MISS BLANCHE who caught the eye on her hurdling debut at Musselburgh, jumping and travelling nicely in front before tiring three out. She might be worth an each-way interest today.
AL REESHA (5.10 Ayr) showed up well in a bumper last time for the Skeltons although Undisputed has already been well supported for today’s closing bumper, while MCVICAR (4.50) makes some appeal in the lucky last at Southwell.
